One of the things that makes good Indian classical music so appealing is that underneath the discipline and dazzling technique, the master musicians never forget what it's really all about call it 'soul' or 'spirit', whatever it is that transforms ordinary music into magic. Khan plays the Sarod with relaxed confidence letting the notes fall gently from the instrument. Each line sings out, reaching for the listener. The joy of making music comes over clearly on this disc. He works extraordinarily well with Tabla-player Sukhvinder Sing Namdhari to get right in side the music. There is any number of well-recorded well-played CDs of Indian classical music on the go just now. This release, however, stands out for that extra ingredient-soul.
