Originally titled Mera Bharat Mahaan (My India is Great), the film title was later changed to "Heroes", to avoid making it sound like a patriotic film.
The film revolves around a group of students who study film-making together. They have been sent away to film a documentary, and so they go on a road trip. The students are trying to figure out the meaning behind the logo on every passing vehicle, which says, Mera Bharat Mahaan. Filming began on June 15, 2007.
Salman and Preity are paired opposite each other, in their fifth film together. Filming took place in Ladakh and Chandigarh , Punjab and Delhi. Some scenes were shot in Pangong Tso featuring Salman Khan, Sohail Khan and Vatsel Seth.
