Two Enchanting Hours of Qawwalies by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Qawwali is a form of music that uses the delicacy of poetry to open the fire of ecstasy in the heart of listeners. It includes praises to the Gods, love poems and esotric poems from the Sufi masters. The art was discovered by Hazrat Amir Khusrau, the legendary musician and poet who came to India during the 14th Century. Born on 13th October 1948 in Lyalpur in the Punjab province of Pakistan,
Ustad Nustrat Fateh Ali Khan, the greatest exponent of this art form, inherited the music from his family whose musical roots stretchs back over the past six centuries. Qaawali is sung by a group composed of a lead singer who is supported inturn by a group of artists including vocalists, the rythm section consisting of the traditional Dholak and Tabla and by the melodic acompaniment of the Harmonium.
