Description - Tanweer CD - Ustad Fateh Ali Khan Listen To Sample

Ustad Bade Fateh Ali Khan is the senior representative of the Patiala gharana, one of North India's most famous traditions of classical singing. Ustad Bade Fateh Ali Khan has a wide repertoire, performing classical khyal and tarana, light classical çhumrã, and a variety of popular genres including ghazals and film songs.

A resident of Lahore, he has travelled widely and worked in recent years with the Norwegian government in promoting Indian music in that country: he has also worked with the well known Norwegian saxophonist Jan Gabarek. He possesses a remarkably rich, open-throated voice, and has tremendous control over powerful fast tans: two qualities attributed to his forebears which have obviously not been lost over time.

Fateh Ali Khan is assisted here by his nephew, Amjad Amanat Ali Khan, and by the talented young tabla player Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari. Sukhvinder, born in Ludhiana in Punjab in 1965, is a disciple of Pandit Kishan Maharaj of Banaras.
